Connecting Communities, Promoting Safety, Supporting Young People
Our CRP PROJECTS
Since 2018 we have been developing projects and awareness campaigns for children and young people that focus on rail safety, mental health and wellbeing, promoting rail as a sustainable way to travel, and building connections between children and young people living along our railway lines. We have done this through rail confidence trips including for those who first time travellers, interactive activities such as games and activity packs, and by simply taking the time to talk with people.
Tracks and Trains
Tracks and Trains is an interactive game that helps children and young people learn about rail safety in a fun and engaging way. It encourages players to think about safe behaviours around trains and stations, make positive choices, and understand how to travel confidently and responsibly.
Bags of Positivty
Bags of Positivity is our ongoing project that encourages conversations about mental health while sharing key messages about staying safe around railways. Throughout the year our team visits train stations to speak with the public and offer small packs that include a simple positive message, important helpline numbers such as Samaritans, Breathing Space and Childline, and our own contact details. Each pack also includes a button badge as a reminder to take a moment to talk.
Christmas Cheer
Every year our CRP choir takes to Haymarket Station to share Christmas cheer with everyone travelling through. We perform festive songs and engage with the public, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere. This has become one of our favourite times of the year, bringing music, smiles, and a sense of community to the station

Rail Explorers
Rail Explorers is our activity that introduces young people to rail safety in a practical and engaging way. The group visits railway locations with support from rail staff who explain how the network works, what risks are present and how to stay safe when travelling or moving near stations and tracks. Young people take part in simple tasks and discussions that help them understand real situations they might face.
We also have our own Rail Explorers activtiy pack which we give to every participant to supplement their learning.
Community Engagement
We run rail safety campaigns across the year that encourage people to think about safe travel, sustainable choices and general wellbeing. Our team takes part in community events and activities where we share clear information about how to stay safe on and around the railway. These events also highlight rail as a positive travel option and give people a chance to learn more about looking after themselves and those around them.

The Rail Kit
The Rail Kit project brings railway safety to life for young people through a hands-on, interactive resource. Already created by our team, the kit includes a model railway highlighting key hazards, a shunting puzzle for problem-solving, and a train simulator to explore rail operations. We take the kit to events and groups, allowing young people to learn about rail safety, skills, and careers in a practical and engaging way.
